Planning-Flat Plan

After looking at other flat plans I decided to put an ad or two between each article. If an article takes up at least three pages I tried to put an ad in between some of the pages. The heading pages are just the title pages for the articles. The only thing left to do is make up titles for the articles in the table of contents.

Planning Interviews

For my magazine I plan on doing an interview today with some of the wrestlers from Sarasota High School, and Sarasota Military Acadamey. One of the athletes I will interview is SHS wrestler Michael Bush, who last year placed 2nd at the 3A state tournament at the 113lb weight class. Other wrestlers from SHS will include Kaden Harris and Brandon Van Kampen. From SMA I will interview Jovan Cine who qualified for the 1A state tournament at the 152lb weight class. These interviews will be easy to schedule because I have been practicing with all of them for the past four years.

Some of the questions I have for them include:

• How does the intensity of wrestling compare to other sports?
• What would you change about the sport?
• What are your main goals for this season?
• Is it difficult for you to manage your weight?
• Which do you think wrestling requires more, physical or mental strength?
• How long have you been wrestling?

Planning-Photo-Shoot

Today I plan on going to the football field after school to get a picture for the cover of my magazine. My plan for the cover picture is to go to one end-zone and take a picture that shows the rest of the field. Or, I will take a shot looking down on the field from the top of the bleachers showing the full field. Also, I will take pictures in the wrestling room to go with the wrestling room for a page that will have an interview with a Florida 3A 113lb state-runner up named Michael Bush and a few other wrestlers from Sarasota High School. I will also go to other locations such as the basketball court in the gym, or the weight room. Any pictures from these locations will most likely be put on the table of contents page, or I might use them for an advertisement page.

The fifth magazine I researched was Sporting News. On the cover of the issue I observed there was a picture of retired NFL quarterback Peyton Manning getting ready to throw a pass. The photo matches the magazine's main story which is about Peyton Manning and why he is the best QB in the NFL. The articles and advertisements found in this magazine are similar to all of the other ones that I researched. The most common articles are about sports such as: basketball, baseball, soccer, and football. Ads appear every couple of pages, while researching I have noticed that this a common pattern that magazines tend to follow. The company has received any awards. After 126 years the company discontinued print issues, readers now use the magazines website to catch up on what is going on in sports.

The next magazine I observed during my research was SportsPro. On the cover of one issue there is a picture of popular professional boxer Anthony Joshua and his opponent Klitshko, this is meant to put focus on the main article which is about an upcoming fight between the two. Many of the articles inform the reader about what is going on in different sports. For instance, one of the articles in this issue is about the building of the first stadium built specifically for E-Sports. Ads show up every couple of pages and normally promote food, sports, and clothing products. The magazine has not won any awards since it was first published in June 2008.

The third magazine I observed Sports Illustrated . On the cover of this issue there is a picture of NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III as he scrambles downfield. The cover also features the titles of some of the articles in the issue. In this magazine the articles include interviews, health stories, opinionated pieces, and informative articles. Usually there is a picture that goes along with the main idea of the article. There is an advertisement every two to three pages. For example, one article interviews NBA player Dwayne Wade, the article has a picture of Wade in his Miami Heat uniform. The products that are promoted include DR. Scholls, LAYS Potato Chips, and Breitling watches. Including the cover, the magazine has a total of seventy-six pages. In 2015 the magazine was awarded a GLAAD media award for outstanding magazine overall coverage.
